It’s quite simple, I write down all of my blessings in my gratitude journal every single morning. Thanksgiving is all about Giving and we all have so much to give, regardless of our financial situation. The root of all giving is love and care and it can be demonstrated by giving of our time, our ear, setting our table for someone who would spend the holiday alone, or even as simple as a ride somewhere (to our table). As much as we focus on making the perfect turkey and setting the perfect table, set aside some time to think about what your team, your employees, a stranger, a friend and your family really needs this holiday and give from your heart. It may be an inspirational conversation that will make them feel so much better gong into the holiday. When we give, we create a memory that will last far longer than the taste of our delicious pie (although when made with love or purchased with love, can also be quite special too :))!!!

👂💬❤️💡 Listen To Understand!!!
As we wrap up our week focused on really listening, I thought I would point out that when we really listen to understand, there is so much more information we are receiving. As humans, we communicate beyond our words and when we give the person we are listening to our undivided attention and use nonverbal listening skills like eye contact, leaning in, not being distracted by others, technology, etc., we are also able to gain so much more information from our conversation. Often, it is what is not said that matters most. When we get to the heart of the issue, the heart of the person we are listening to, we can help them solve something much bigger than the question or challenge they came to us with. Imagine that? Talk about demonstrating real care and talk about solving problems at their core. We can only do this when we really listen. Be the leader who really listens, be the leader who cares, be the leader who gets to the heart of an issue, be the leader who makes the greatest impact on others. 👂 😊 ❤️ ✨ When was the last time someone really listened to you? When was the last time you as a CEO, leader, business owner, human, really listened to someone on your team, in your family, someone who sought your counsel? I mean, LISTENED. Listened deeply, listened to really understand, listened out of caring, listened to help, lent an ear not to to gain something, yet to build something and that was: Trust, Empathy, a Deep Connection, to Show Respect. When? Listening is a skill and it is something that when you really do it right, you leave the other person feeling heard, valued, empowered, seen, validated and so much better off than when they were on their own struggling silently. Leadership is all about listening, really listening to understand. We listen with our body language, when we face the other person, when we lean in, when we acknowledge what is said and when we appropriately maintain eye contact. Listening to understand is a skill that can be learned and with practice, can transform your effectiveness as a leader. Our associates do not want to be told what to do, they want to be heard and empowered to make their own choices. So, let’s remember this and keep practicing real, authentic genuine listening this week!

👂 💡 💖 This week, let’s Listen!!!
Let’s first define what it means to listen, to really listen to someone. It means that we are giving our attention (full) with the ear; attend closely for the purpose of hearing. It may seem so simple, yet how many of us as busy CEO’s, business owners, leaders and humans stop everything we are doing to pay close attention and really listen to a member of our team, another employee, someone who has come to us to answer a question, for counsel, advice, to be there for us when we need them? Secondly, how many times does and issue arise at home and at work and we jump to conclusions and make assumptions as to how and where things went wrong? Do we stop then and really listen? There is so much noise all of the time, often noise we create ourselves through digital distractions, over scheduling, multi tasking. Do you think this week, just this week, we could try stopping and really listening for the root cause of an issue, the thing that is really bothering our team, our employees, our family members and friends and maybe even reach out to someone who you have had a misunderstanding with lately and schedule a time to talk. I mean, for them to talk and for you to listen. Who is going to give this a try this week? Need help listening, really listening? Every single one of us is made up of a combination of so many wonderful beliefs, values, gifts, skills, talents, ideas, ways of working (and so on and so on and so on) and we must celebrate our authentic selves by letting our light shine! What I mean by this, is we cannot be afraid to be ourselves and we cannot be afraid to let others be themselves. Being ourselves does not mean treating others poorly, this in fact will never lead to a good outcome. If you do, genuinely apologize and don’t repeat the behavior. Additionally, it is not in our agreement that we are strong, it is in our understanding, support, respect and empowerment of each other that we are the strongest! As leaders, we have a fundamental responsibility and that is to take care of everyone that we lead, everyone. In fact, we not only want to take care of everyone in our company and on our team, we actually want to bring out the very best in them, then we must allow ourselves and our team to shine and that means to be who they are. When we create this psychological safe environment and model being our authentic selves with all of our likes, quirks, varying ideas, we create something really special and that is the most wonderful culture and culture will create the most incredible business and success. Let’s think about it for a minute, YOU either created your business or you earned your role through doing many things really well. I chose this to share because I hope it helps make a critical point as we continue this week to focus on the “Big Picture” and we “Focus on What Matters.” My daughter and my children matter, my family matters and what I do and how I lead and how I parent, matters. ✈️ 📹 💡 ✨ The Big Picture!!!
I just recently had the opportunity to fly in a sea plane overlooking Moosehead Lake in Maine. This experience was at first frightening (when I first got into the backseat of this enclosed space and put my headset on, I had an immediate panic attack :(), yet after my initial scare, my mind and body relaxed and off we went up in the air in search of a moose sighting (my fiance’s bucket list item). The view from the sky overlooking this stunning area of Maine was simply breathtaking and I found myself in pure delight soaking it all in for the next 30 minutes. Seeing these pictures after, I am reminded of how important it is for us CEO’s, business owners and leaders to remember and reflect on “The Big Picture.” It is easy to get caught up in the issues, in the problems and in what is not working. However, if we would take some time to remind ourselves as to why we created our companies, built our teams, we somehow get back on track. Let’s focus on the Big Picture this week in our workplaces, for our teams and in our lives!

This week, I am thrilled to discuss the power of Positivity! As leaders, our ability to embrace positivity in all situations is crucial for fostering a positive workplace. It’s essential to find the bright side in every scenario and individual. We all have the capacity to do so; we just need to cultivate this skill.
Reflecting on a personal experience, I used to feel disappointed when plans were canceled in my early 30s. Shifting from excitement to dismay drained my energy. I realized the importance of transitioning from Plan “A” to Plan “B” swiftly. Surprisingly, Plan “B” often surpassed the original plan, leading to powerful outcomes. Embracing this strategy has been transformative in both my professional and personal life. Choosing positivity and adapting to Plan “B” has proven to be incredibly rewarding!

As CEO’s, business owners, leaders and humans, we get to choose how we react to anything!
Yes, we actually have that choice available to us at every moment. There are so many options at our finger tips, with two predominant ones-we can chose a positive way of thinking about a situation, person, etc., or we can chose (or let our default patterns chose for us), a negative way of thinking. They both feel and illicit two very different responses in ourselves and in others (our bodies and our mind). When we decide to think and react with positive, anabolic energy, we put ourselves and others in a solution driven state and when we chose to think and react negatively, we do the exact opposite, we limit our our collective choices in finding the very best solution to any problem and cease productivity. Although not always easy, or your go to energy, yet this week, let’s try to only think positively!

As we head into 4th quarter, I’ve spent some extra time talking with my clients about what they are thinking (or in some cases worrying) about as it relates to ending their year strong, achieving what they intended to this year. In no particular order, these are some of the things they are worried about: retaining their team, hiring quality new team members, effectively handling some tough customer situations, making up for a deficit in some business metrics, rectifying a difficult situation that they or a team member was responsible for, growing their business, handling personal issues that are important and pulling at their time and energy.
Every single one of these issues are real and as I reflected on them, I came up with one solution that if followed in life and in business can solve everything.

I’m dedicating this final post of the week on Growth to my son. Sharing a powerful quote that has inspired him through the toughest times. “Growth over Comfort,” Growth is uncomfortable sometimes. Sometimes it feels impossible. Life throws surprises, but with love, care, and guidance, you can overcome anything. You just have to take the first step. “Growth over Comfort” has been his inspiration for many years, he had it tattooed on his arm (why I am using this windy picture from Florida so you can see it), I framed an art piece with the saying for his bedroom and am sharing that we can all grow as humans, as leaders for ourselves, our families and workplaces. We cannot force anyone to change, so as we witness (and perhaps partake in) the variety of emotions that may be surfacing this week, perhaps we can simply reflect.
Reflection is one of the very fist steps in creating change, which leads to growth. Reflection often comes in a car ride (like mine here after a beautiful weekend away), or in the shower, by the beach, it usually happens when we are on vacation, away from our day to day and are thinking about our life, our work, how we are feeling, what is working what is not working. At this point, we have many choices, we can stay the course and hope for the best (please do let me know how this works out), or we can start somewhere and take the very fist step in our journey for personal growth.
Growth takes courage, it takes humility, and it always takes character.

I still remember being in 6th grade and wanting to make sure my teacher felt the love she provided all of us. So, somehow, I asked my classmates if they wanted to get together, chip in some money (not sure how much we had back then) to buy her a gift to show her our appreciation. We bought her a beautiful crystal vase (I think it was crystal ;)) and I picked roses from our yard (we ran out of money for the flowers) and we presented her with the vase, flowers and a card that we all signed. I am not sure where I learned how to do this exactly, all I remember is how I felt doing it, how my classmates felt presenting it and how she felt receiving it and let me tell you, it was pure love and magic.
We will always remember how someone makes us feel, let it be because they made us feel special and took the time to see us, let us know we mattered and appreciate us for all we are and what we do.
Employees do not leave company’s that make them feel celebrated and appreciated. You know what they do, they stay, they bring out their very best selves and they drive your company’s success!!!

It may come easier to us to celebrate our family and friends and may not be as intuitive to celebrate the individuals on our team and in our work family. Companies and leaders who take the time to genuinely acknowledge that their associates are the most valuable asset they have, will take the time to get to know their associates on a human level and celebrate them, what is important to them and let them know how much they mean to them and to their company’s success!!!

It’s all about Perception!!!
Let’s kick off this week thinking about what we are struggling with. I know, I don’t mean to bring up challenges first thing, yet I really do want to help you with what might be weighing on you personally and/or professionally. So, take a moment and think about the heaviest challenge you are facing, the thing that is distracting you from being your best self lately. Yes, that, might as well. Now, it is probably weighing on you because when you think about it, it is something that you simply don’t love dealing with, it could be a new challenge, or simply in an area that brings up a lot of negative emotion for you. I want you to try something right now. I want you to completely erase the opinion you have about this challenge, issue, thing, relationship and choose a completely different way to think about it, a way that maybe you never considered. Try it. Try it until one thing happens, you feel better, feel at ease, feel like you had a breakthrough. Then, know that this is the best solution and execute. We can solve every problem facing us when we change our perspective!

Let’s continue to dive into Empathy.
Research has demonstrated time and time again that Empathy in the workplace is a superpower. I’d say, empathy anywhere, anytime, is a superpower and one that, if not yours, can be cultivated. Let’s take a moment and define it in simple terms. Empathy is the ability to emotionally understand what other people feel, see things from their point of view, and imagine yourself in their place. Essentially, it is putting yourself in someone else’s position and feeling what they are feeling. When we do this for a friend, a colleague, a team member or someone on our team, imagine how they must feel? They feel cared for, they feel seen, they feel heard, they feel safe, they feel valued. They will ALWAYS remember how you made them feel. Empathy is an experience. I promise you that CEO’s, business owners and leaders who show empathy in the workplace will be the ones who transform their workplace cultures for the better by bringing out the very best in others. There is nothing that speaks more to creating a psychologically safe workplace than, empathy. When leaders take the time to not only listen, yet to care about how their employees are really doing, they demonstrate empathy. As we wrap up this week talking about TRUST, the foundation of any healthy relationship and business, I thought we spend some time talking about who is responsible for creating trust at work. Because trust is the foundation of healthy businesses that thrive, it is something that must come from the very top of a company/organization. So, CEO’s and business owners, you cannot expect trust to begin at any other level in the organization. Like most things leadership, it starts with YOU! What does this mean? It means that YOU must model what trusts feels like. It means that your associates will turn to YOU and see how you react to every situation. They will assess YOUR actions against your mission and values. They will see if you hold your leadership team to the high standards of trust, they will then begin to not only believe there is trust in the workplace, they will begin to feel safe, they will begin to enjoy their work, they will begin to bring their creativity to everything they do, they will take risks, they will wear your company’s swag with pride and they will bring their very best self to work every day. Why? Because you made them feel safe and in today’s environment, what a blessing it will be when your entre company trusts each other? Imagine that!!!

Be The Reason...
This week we continue to talk about and demonstrate what TRUST is, what it does and what it feels like in the workplace. As far back as I can remember, I have always believed that leadership is the greatest privilege and the greatest responsibility. It is of no surprise to me that throughout my career and in my practice, I have taken my leadership roles and my role as a human to heart. When I work with my clients, they already know this or learn this quickly. I have an opportunity in every interaction that I must hold up and that is to be the reason people feel safe in my presence, are willing to be vulnerable and trust that I will do everything to help them. I have been blessed with having some unbelievable leaders who gained my trust completely. I have also witnessed many leaders who lead without trust, only fear. I’d like for all of the leaders who are reading this to honestly ask themselves which leader are you?
Your behavior will always speak louder than anything you talk about. If you are saying one thing and doing another, your team does not trust you, they fear you. If your words match your actions and this happens ALL of The Time, your team will not only trust you, they will respect you, feel cared for and will overcome all obstacles to help you and drive your business.
Trust is earned, leadership is a privilege and a responsibility.

This week has been all about answering our one question: If you summarized your entire life up until this point, how would you with just one word? As an executive coach, mom, friend, and human, I have always wanted to dig deep, understand people at the deepest level, and help them grasp that who they are today is a culmination of their beliefs. Beliefs that if not serving them can simply be changed. Beliefs are simply thoughts we keep thinking about. My inspiration to do good in the world is fueled by my lifelong learning and experience. Passion and Patience was today's theme in my morning meditation. It is of no surprise to me that it showed up today. As you know, I've been spending time recently talking with my clients about who they are and who they want to be. We can decide at any given moment to change, we can simply stop thinking the way we always have and begin to think about something new. We can move toward working and living with a new legacy in mind. When it is all over and we are reflecting back on our life, we want to feel something, something that is true to who we are, true to our passion and this work on ourselves needs patience, just like anything we have ever wanted, it will come if we don't keep getting in our own way with doubt, with resistance. So, today, I am posting this with a different lens. Let's trust the process, let's trust ourselves, as we keep facing the sun in creating the change in us that we know in our souls we want to see.
